The Dragonfly

What an enchanted evening!!!  Saturday, Nov. 18, 2006 was a beautiful balmy and star lit night for the Alana Dung Research Foundation’s Dream and Dragonflies:  Seeds of Hope.  The evening was a tribute to the former dean of the UH medical school, Dr. Edwin C. Cadman.

The design consultant Dean Christopher’s vision of a whimsical yet beautiful garden setting with gigantic plumeria and monstera leaves fashioned in Bali and soaring and twirling dragonflies was achieved on the grounds of the John A. Burns School of Medicine in Kaka’ako.  Christopher’s magical mastery coupled with the many hours put forth by the volunteers and the generous donations of materials from many businesses transformed the grounds.

Six hundred and twenty guests enjoyed the delicious culinary delights prepared by Chef Grant Sato and his staff, the soothing music by Hapa and Jeff Petersen, and the excitement of the special silent auction which was made possible by the donations of many individuals and firms.

The Alana Dung Research Foundation is very grateful for everyone’s support.  The event raised $200,000 for the medical school.  The funds will provide seed money for scientists and researchers to develop preliminary findings, a necessary step before competing for large-scale research awards.

We are honored to call all of you our partners in the Foundation’s mission to eliminate the pain and suffering caused by life threatening diseases.
