The Alana Dung Research Foundation, a public charity incorporated as a nonprofit organization in the State of Hawaii, was established by Stephen and Adelia Dung. When their daughter Alana became ill with leukemia, they became impassioned about the need to support research efforts designed to improve the quality of life for children with serious illnesses, and to support those individuals and organizations whose work is directed at eliminating the pain and suffering caused by terminal illnesses.
The mission of the Alana Dung Research Foundation is to encourage research efforts by providing financial support to worthy research organizations and individuals throughout the world for clinical studies and research directed at improving the quality of life for sick children, improving treatment and preventing disease. Projects supported will be those which have established a reputation for research excellence, are managed responsibly, and are financially sound.
"Expect A Miracle" was the motto underlying all the bone marrow drives to find a donor for Alana. The Foundation will seek to perpetuate the miracles Alana made us aware of - the miracles made possible through the love, hope and faith of the community and the life giving miracles made possible through medical advances.
